There are few drivers who are not aware that tires need to be checked on a regular basis. However, awareness does not necessarily translate into action. Few are aware of the impact on their safety on the road if thet drive with tires that are not in good condition. Motorists need to be aware about their tire pressure and their tire tread depth and get these checked on a regular basis. The extent of ignorance about the acute danger they are in if they do not carry out these checks on a regular basis is appalling. In a recent study conducted by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administrationin the United States, it was found that of nearly 11, 500 cars, SUVs, vans and pickups that were examined, at least 10 per cent had a bald tire while almost half had tires with tread levels that were potentially unsafe. Hence the next question would be “Where do you get your tires checked in Dubai?”
Tires lose at least half their level of traction when the tread is half worn out. When the grooves are not deep enough to channel water away from the tires, it causes hydroplaning and the driver will find that the vehicle will no longer respond to the steering wheel – a highly dangerous situation. You need to change your tire when the grooves are 2/32 of an inch deep. In new tires, it is usually 10/32 of an inch. Many leading tire manufacturers like Continental, Goodyear and Dunlop now use tread wear indicators which are moulded horizontal bars at the base of the grooves. These disappear when the grooves are 2/32 inch deep and signal to the motorist that the tire needs to be changed. In wet weather, you need to be extra careful, as you may need to have at least 4/32 of an inch thickness on your tires for effective hydroplaning. You also need to take into account the speeds at which you normally drive as those who normally drive their cars at higher speeds will wear out their tires faster and will need to replace them more frequently.
When it is a question of your safety on the road, it is better not to take any unnecessary risks. Go to a garage you can trust with the most modern equipment for tire changing, tire rotation and wheel alignment. Alignment issues can cause uneven wear, use up more fuel and affect the functioning and response of the vehicle. Opt for a garage like Orange Auto in Al Quoz, Dubai that is staffed by trained tire technicians and has state of the art equipment to ensure that your tires and ultimately your lives are in safe hands on the road.
